Welcome to Brazil!

Yesterday morning we arrived in Sao Paulo, Brazil after a 10 1/2 hour flight. All is well and very HOT! We have come to Brazil to visit a dear friend of mine and former colleague. My friendship with Artemis (Te) blossomed out of a horrible work situation. We made lemonade out of lemons and have been friends for over 2 years now. A native of Brazil, Te has since moved back to her country.

We did not waste a moment once we arrived. First stop, lunch in Sao Paulo at a "churrasco" restaurant. This is portuguese for "barbecue." Dan was in meat heaven! The restaurant is set up in an all-you-can-eat style with a vast salad bar filled with tropical south american goodies. Once you have filled your plate with salad waiters come around with large sticks filled with delicious meats. They slice it right off the stick and onto your salad plate. It was so delicious. We sat and learned some portuguese words and laughed over our lunch with Te and her friend Eder. After lunch, Eder treated us to a true Brazillian football game. We enjoyed really enjoyed the experience. After the game we took the long drive back to the city of Bauru, Te's home. The drive through the country side was so beautiful. Everything is so lush and green. Mountains with small towns nestled in their sides paint the landscape.

When we arrived at Te's house, we were so sleepy. We watched a bit of the Carnaval celebration on television and soon we were off to sleep.

We have no pictures from our first day. The city is not very safe, and we have to remove all our jewelry and watches when walking the streets. More to come...today we should be able to capture some images.

Love to our families and friends! Stay tuned!
