Later, we were invited to Te's parents house for homemade churrasco. They were so welcoming and excited to have us in their home. The food was, of course, amazing.
From lunch at the Fontanas, we went Claudio's home, a friend of Te's, where they live comfortably but not large. As we walked through the door of the tall stucco wall that surrounds their property, we passed over a bridge flanked by two fountains. The homes here tend to flow from indoor to outdoor space. So as we approached the pool, central to the property, we observed a beautiful structure surrounding it on three sides. To the left was a covered dining area with a long dining table and sun loungers with baskets of clean rolled blue and white striped towels. Directly ahead, behind the pool, was an outdoor kitchen where servants cooked, you guessed it, more churrasco! There was a bar with a beer tap containing a local brew. To the right was their house. A glass front revealing a lounge area. We did not bring our camera inside so we only have words to create memories. Claudio, a hefty, tan man with a big smile, welcomed us with huge hugs saying, "my house is your house! Please, be comfortable!" We ate some more and enjoyed their company.
After Claudio's we went to enjoy iced coffee at Te's favorite place. It was delicious. After all this we were feeling sluggish. I was in dire need of a long run in order to keep up with my half marathon training, and both Te and Dan agreed that they needed a workout. The sun had gone down and it was finally "cool" enough to be outside and move around without over heating.
I ran 6 miles in the glorious summer heat. Dan and Artemis biked. It felt so good to breathe the warm, humid air after the long cold winter we've been experiencing in New York.
It is fun to be in another country with locals because you quickly realize that life is the same even though the atmosphere and culture are completely different.
