Dinner with Friends

On Thursday, April 15th, Dan and I volunteered to host an event for our church, adoringly called "Dinner with Friends." Now, here is a wonderful idea for fellowship within any church of any size. Every few months, our church puts out a sign up for members to volunteer to prepare and host a dinner party in their home. Once the hosts have been set, the church puts up another sign up for members who want to eat. Random pairings of members are assigned to dinner parties around the neighborhood and the result is a splendid evening with new friends over food and drink!

We hosted six guests at our home and served endive walnut salad with stilton cheese, leg of lamb with roasted potatoes, green beans sauteed with shallots, plenty of wine and plenty of hearty conversation. The thing I love about New Yorkers and Brooklynites is that you can throw eight random people together and you get a beautiful smattering of eight different backgrounds, eight interesting careers, and eight different personalities that breed warmth and laughter over our one commonality that is the city.

We topped off the evening with a pumpkin banana tart w/ vanilla whipped cream (courtesy of that frozen pumpkin puree from my Thanksgiving center piece...a gift that keeps on giving) and the Harney & Sons Paris blend tea in my beautiful Russel Wright cups.

Another wonderful Brooklyn evening, candle lit with windows open, and six new friends.
