Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving has truly become my most favorite holiday of the year. It is the only holiday that has not been destroyed by all the commercialism, and though it is strongly overshadowed, sandwiched inbetween the ghosts and goblins of Halloween and the ribbons and bows of Christmas, its value will remain stron in our house. Giving us four days off of work, this holiday calls us to pause. It comes without gifts and without much decoration. It calls us to praise for the bounty of blessing. It calls us to slow our lives and give Thanks.

This year we were so Thankful to be at home in Brooklyn and skip the circus that is holiday travel. Though this kept us away from our families, we are anxiously awaiting Christmas with our loved ones. We wanted to take the time to be Thankful for the friends and community that God has blessed us with here in New York. We are Thankful for our farmer's market, wich supplied us with so much of the delicious food we enjoyed on Thanksgiving day and continually supplies us with fresh, local produce every week.

We are so Thankful for our home and the ability to invite our friends in. For Laura who flew in from Ohio to stay with us, for Emellia and her friends Matt, Cherish, and Ben, for Jordan and for Joy. Laura and I enjoyed a morning run together while the bird was in the oven, guests arrived around 3:00 for wine and cheese, we feasted on so many goodies that everyone brought from their homes to ours, enjoyed a brisk evening stroll through the park, and coffee and dessert.
